Spring has sprung: 5 jobs for the garden

Spring has sprung: 5 jobs for the garden

The warmer months are such a great time to be enjoying your garden. Tend to it now so there will be time for you to recline in your favourite shady spot with a book or a cold beer over the summer holidays.

Eradicate pests

Deal with pests such as leaf miners, aphids and gall wasps.  Smaller infestations can be dealt with a quick snip but if you have a large infestation a horticultural oil spray is the way to go.

Fertilise

Now is the time to feed your citrus trees, just before they bloom. This will maximise your chance of a good crop! Activgrow Fertiliser Pellets are great and don’t forget to add in some slow-release trace elements. If the soil is dry, a deep watering will also help your trees to flourish in the coming months.

Mulching

A 20cm covering of mulch around trees and other garden beds before summer hits is an easy way to spruce up your garden and it will help to conserve soil moisture and reduce plant water stress. It also prevents evaporation and soil erosion and will build organic matter over time. Soak your beds first and then apply your mulch.

Turfing

September is a great time to lay new turf. As the temperature rises your lawn will quickly develop a deep root system, new shoots and lush foliage. Typically, there is good seasonal rain at this time of the year which is also a bonus.
